Spanish learning levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference

At Luis Vives Escuela de Español, the groups are differentiated according to the levels of learning Spanish. These levels are included in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR). If you want to know your level of Spanish, you can take our level test.

Basic level

A1

He is able to understand and use frequently used everyday expressions as well as simple phrases intended to satisfy immediate needs. You can introduce yourself and others, ask for and give basic personal information about your home, your belongings and the people you know. You know how to relate in an elementary way as long as your interlocutor speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to cooperate.

A2

You can understand frequently used phrases and expressions related to areas of experience that are especially relevant to you (basic information about yourself and your family, shopping, places of interest, occupations, etc.). Knows how to communicate when carrying out simple, everyday tasks that require nothing more than simple and direct exchanges of information on issues that are familiar or common to them. He is able to describe in simple terms aspects of his past and his environment as well as issues related to his immediate needs.

Intermediate level

B1

You can understand the main points of clear texts in standard language if they deal with issues that are familiar to you, whether in work, study or leisure situations. He knows how to handle most of the situations that may arise during a trip through areas where the language is used. He is able to produce simple and coherent texts on topics that are familiar to him or in which he has a personal interest. You can describe experiences, events, wishes and aspirations, as well as briefly justify your opinions or explain your plans.

B2

Is able to understand the main ideas of complex texts that deal with both concrete and abstract topics, even if they are of a technical nature as long as they are within their field of specialization. He can relate to native speakers with a sufficient degree of fluency and naturalness so that communication is effortless on the part of either interlocutor. He can also produce clear and detailed texts on various topics as well as defend a point of view on general topics indicating the pros and cons of different options.

Advanced level

C1

He is able to understand a wide variety of extensive texts with a certain level of demand. You can also recognize implicit meanings in them. He knows how to express himself fluently and spontaneously without very obvious signs of effort to find the appropriate expression. You can make flexible and effective use of the language. For both social and academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured and detailed texts on topics of certain complexity, showing correct use of the mechanisms of organization, articulation and cohesion of the text.

C2

He is able to understand practically anything he hears or reads. Can summarize information from different sources, whether written or spoken, reconstructing arguments with a coherent presentation. You know how to express spontaneously, fluently and precisely. He knows how to differentiate small nuances of meaning even in the most complex situations.
